This is according the game’s lead designer, Kevin Martens and art director, Christian Lichtner during an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun.
Unfortunately if you were hoping that Blizzard would eventually listen and give in to the demands of their players for an offline mode, you’d be out of luck. The feature then made its way onto Diablo 3 which was pretty controversial since prior to Diablo 3, gamers would be able to play offline in Diablo 2, or play with friends via TCP/IP instead of, meaning that their experience would not be at the mercy of Blizzard’s servers. As a result, popular eth items like Fortitude AP or Exile Vortex have about 30% less defense. While Blizzard has pretty much introduced to most of its games, they never really made it a requirement for gamers to stay connected, at least until StarCraft 2 where it became a requirement. Eth-bug has been fixed: socketing ethereal runeword bases such as Archon Plate in Horadric Cube, no longer gives extra +50% defense compared to finding items with sockets or using Larzuk. Wrong or bugged tooltips will be fixed. Ability to report players for toxic behavior or cheating. Uber Tristram and Diablo Clone events will not change, you can get Torch and Anni there. You will be able to use any character name you want because of the modern battle#tag system. Shorter Ladders, possibly 3 months long. If you have Hell access, you will be able search for games of lower difficulty as well. Modernized UI for friend list and lobby. Vacuum gold pickup, which you can enable/disable.
Character sheet shows all stats that gear gives. Single Player (Open ) will work the same, you can buy items now and then import your save file to D2R once it's released but TCP/IP multiplayer mode will be removed. Single Player will have access to the Pandemonium Event (Uber Tristram - Torch) and Uber Diablo (Anni). Ladder-only items, runewords and cube recipes will work on Non-Ladder and Single Player. Quickly move items between stash and inventory. Bigger and shared stash, which will allow you to easily transfer items between your characters. New and improved audio with most of the original sounds remaining the same. You will be able to switch between old and new graphics as old Diablo 2 engine will always be running in the background. Up to 4k resolution with new 3D graphic and recreated cinematics.
You can pick up your order on PC and then play your character on console but you will need a separate D2R license for PC. Saved progress across all platforms, which means that you will be able to play the same character on any device but cross play will not be possible (if your friend plays on Xbox, you must also have Xbox). This is our best guess based on the information available and years of experience with providing game services.

There will be 9 game modes in total and right now we deliver on 5 of them (4 Ladder modes are pre-order): Since all devices share the same market, you don't need to specify your device before purchase, just tell us upon delivery so we can login on the same device as you have :) It means that players from all corners of the world are able play together, if they are using the same device.Īlthough there is no cross-play, you can still access your character on different devices with cross-progression but you have to purchase D2R license for each device separately. There is one global realm (no Europe, East, West, Asia) and PC version has three regions you can jump between (Europe, Americas, Asia). Please make sure that you select game mode with 'D2R' in it, otherwise you will get items for old Diablo 2! It's a completely separate game, which you are able to select via a server dropdown in our Diablo 2 shop. With the exception of Single Player (offline mode) save files, you are not be able to import anything to D2R from the old Diablo 2.
